This is another article I extract from the Popular newsletter written by Cadence Loh. I have rephrase and summarised some points.

Stress Management
Stress is part and parcel of our life, if it is preventing us from enjoying life, it is time to take action to get back our lives back in order.

1. Identity the origins of your stress. Is the stress from external or internal factors? Let go of matters beyond your control and take charge of others within your control.

2.Understand yourself. Analyse your stress and frustrations. Know what affects you and
try to avoid them.

3. Make plans in face of the worst case scenario. Worrying will get you nowhere. When worrying is pulling you down, think of the worst case scenario and make plans to face it. In this way, before something bad can happen, you are already prepared for it.

4. Prioritise. Fix that nagging thought that has been bugging you the hole day. It can be a bulb that blew or leaking tap causing you inconvenience, get it done immediately. Deal with urgent matters that affect your day- to - day living immediately so that you can focus on other important areas in your life.

5. Share the responsibilities.

6. Declutter your home, work area and life. By clearing out the unnecessary, be it physical objects or mental blocks, you will lessen your burden and feel an increased sense of order.

7. Say “No”. There is limited time for the so many things that we want to do in our lives. Identify the important things and place them on priority. The ability to say “No” can leave you with more time.

8. Set aside some time for yourself. Do not stretch yourself too thin by taking too many responsibilities on yourself. Take time for a beauty routine, watch a movie or read a book.

9. Have a strong support network. A problem shared is a problem halved. With a strong support network, you will not feel so lonely.

10. Think +ve. Take +ve action. Look at situations from +ve viewpt. Eliminate excuses from your life and do not waste time complaining wen the time can be better used for solving problems.

11. Pace yourself. Slow down. Do not be a perfectionist. Relax your stds.

12. Make plans. Set reasonable goals. Stick to them! But yet be flexible.

13. Cry. The body's most natural way oto relive tension and stress.

14. Laugh. Look at the funny side in every situation.

15. Do something you enjoy. Take time to do things you enjoy. It cld be indulging in your fav. hobby or catching up with family and friends.

16. Take a vacation. Know when to work hard and when to play hard. Relax and make fond memories.

17. Have healthy lifestyle choices. Exercise and eat well.

For today's post I will be extracting some fantastic tips I got from an article written by Cadence Loh which I read in the Popular magazine.

Failing memory?
Poorer concentration?

Tip 1: Keep learning something new.
* Be curious and aware. Explore and travel around. The brain gets better the more you use it. Never be afraid of tiring out the brain!

Tip 2: Develop good sleeping habits.
* Sleep is necessary for memory consolidation.Insomnia leaves you tired and unable to concentrate during the day.

Tip 3: Be physically active.
* Regular exercises increases oxygen to the brain and reduce the risk of disorders leading to memory loss , diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Tip 4: Read.
* A book or magazine opens up a new world. Constantly challenge the mind and widen your perspective with reading material of different genres and listen to different opinions.

Tip 5: Make time for yourself.
* In Edward de Bono's Six Thinking Hats: "We try to do too much at once. Emotions, information, logic, hope and creativity all crowd in on us." By clearing our mind of clutter, the mind will connect all the information together.

Tip 6: Maintaining close relationships.
* Having an active social life helps to manage stress level. Network of support will help keep the mind sane.

Tip 7: Be a mentor.
* Teach something you are passionate about.

Brain Exercises--- To be a daily habit.

Point 1: Do things differently. Walk a different route, try a new food, go to a new place, speak a different language and meet new people.

Point 2: Use your non- dominant hand in daily activities.

Point 3: Read aloud. Do simple calculations, put your thoughts on paper. According to Dr. Kawashima's research as stated in Train Your Brain, "reading aloud, solving simple calculations, and writing activate the brain most effectively... simple calculations activate the brain more effectively than nay other activity."

Point 4: Brain workouts like Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Xbox and Playstation games help in sharpening hand- eye coordination and challenge yourself when you try to complete the game in record time.

I shall start off with my favourite topic, food.
Stress is a part and parcel of life but we can combat it will delicious stuff.

I have a love- hate relationship with belts. They are so pretty and they really do enhance your simple outfit and smarten it up by giving shape to it.

However... The above seems to only apply for those with snake waist haa... those with small waists. For me===> Large waist + chunky/thin Belt = Larger waist!!!

Guess plus size ladies shouldn't don belts? Comments?

My Eyes

I have been abusing my eyes.
I subject it to prolong computer staring, TV watching and overwork.
Sleeping late = not giving my poor eyes enough rest.
They are on strike now...
I have black puffy eyes that includes eye bag, dark eye rings and in fact some fine lines...

I should get some cucumber and tea bags to place on my poor eyes...

Maybe I shld invest in a eye serum and some eye masks. Though I know getting more sleep wld be better but there are so many things to do... >_<
Recommendations?

Note to self:
When looking for cream/ serum for eyes look for:
- vitamin A (retinol)
- vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
- vitamin E (tocopherol)
which will reduce the effect of free radicals that make skin look tired as these 3 vitamins have antioxidant properties.

- plants extract like kojic acid and berry extract
which will give lightening effect

- improvement will only be shown after 3 to 6 mths

I was just looking back at the past entries of Diva Look Book when I saw the above ensemble. I really like this style. Now... I just need a dress like this...

Most friends know that my wardrobe consists of a lot of black, navy blue, shades of grey, some white and a few brown, green, purple and yellow. I can't wear bright colours. I think I look strange in them. But I am trying really hard to look for other colours to wear and feel comfortable in them (hence my blog name). But whenever I am a loss at what to wear when meeting friends, I just stick to black then accessorise to glam it up a little.

Just because we're in a recession doesn't mean your skin has to suffer. Skip those pricey spa trips by indulging in your own at-home facials, and piggy bank what would otherwise cost you hundreds of dollars. Read on as celebrity facialists guide you through all of the essential steps, with tips customized for your skin type.

1. CLEANSE

Fill your sink with lukewarm water and add a few drops of essential oil - lavender for normal to dry skin and eucalyptus for normal to oily skin. Drench a terry face cloth in the relaxing aromatic mixture and press it against your face five to 10 times for a gentle cleansing, suggests celebrity facialist Ole Henriksen.

2. STEAM

Lean over a large bowl of boiling water, drape a clean towel over your head and position your face about 10-12 inches above the steam for several minutes. The warm water vapor softens pores so that your skin can reap the full benefits of the treatments to come, says Elena Arboleda, Head Aesthetician of NY's Mario Badescu Spa.

3. STEAM: EXPERT TIP

If you're acne-prone, steaming is a critical step to unclogging pores. Add a drop of tea tree oil to your water to disinfect it, and then dip a washcloth into the very warm water once you've finished steaming. Lay the cloth on your face for several minutes for a deeper steam treatment, says celebrity esthetician Kate Somerville.

4. EXFOLIATE

Mix equal parts finely ground sugar and sesame oil into a paste, and apply it to your face with upward, outward circular motions. "This scrub provides all the benefits of natural AHAs for exfoliation while the oil nourishes and hydrates with a smooth glide across the skin," says Henriksen. This recipe is gentle enough for all skin types.

5. EXFOLIATE: EXPERT TIP

If you prefer a store-bought scrub, "Look for one that uses natural enzymes that digest skin cells, or one with spherical beads that are round and lift cells off the surface without injury to the skin," says Somerville. If you're super sensitive, you can use plain yogurt instead - lactose, the sugar found in dairy products, is a natural exfoliant.

6. MASK

"I love a plain honey mask because it's great for taking redness out of skin, it kills infection with natural anti-bacterial properties, it's soothing and hydrating, and will work on all skin types," says Henriksen. Apply either pure organic or sage honey to your face, keeping safe distance away from the hairline.

8. MASK: EXPERT TIP

If your skin could use a refreshing and invigorating mask, mix avocado with ground flax seeds and apply as a 15 minute treatment to restore moisture and essential nutrients back into the skin, says Somerville.

8. DON'T FORGET YOUR EYES

Roll sliced cucumber into a long strip of gauze. Place it over your eyes as you lie down and relax with your mask on for 10 minutes. Cucumber de-puffs eyes and the juices saturate perfectly through the gauze, says Henriksen. Relax, breathe, enjoy and then rinse off.

9. MOISTURIZE

Apply your favorite moisturizer to your perfectly cleansed, exfoliated and prepped face. "Don't forget to finish with a lip balm. I love Julie Hewitt's Camelia Lip Balm - we use it at our Hollywood clinic," says Somerville.

Diva Look Book has featured an article, On the Smaller End Of Plus Size, from Curvy.Confident.Chic. that dishes out tips and advice which will help girls on the smaller end of the plus size range when they are shopping.

I thought the article is a good reminder to me, especially now that online shopping has become so popular and convenient that many a time, I tend to buy clothes just for the fact that it is in my size and even though I know every well for the fact that I do not suit the design. With this fatal mentality, my wallet bleed and my wardrobe exploded. (okie drama here... )

The article raised a few points that resonate with me and they are:

The 3rd point on quality over quantity is something I go by when I shop these days. I need to build up my wardrobe for office and not to forget the many weddings that I would have to attend soon! (need to find dresses... and shoes and bags... argh...)

Another "bad habit" that point 4 explores is to buy things that don't fit me now, just buying it for the time when I slim down... (which is I don't know when but I know it will come but just don't know when... ) I read somewhere that is because of such a purchasing pattern that plus size clothes shops often find it hard to operate as sales is slow. People are not willing to spend on plus size clothes as they foresee themselves shedding off the extra weight in the near future. As a result, profits is not attractive enough for retailers to enter the plus size market. This will ultimately turn to a detriment to plus size consumers as they have limited choice and face high prices. (Beauty, health and fitness industry will always be profitable.)

Ministry tells online sellers to remove all related posts at once

THE Ministry of Health (MOH) yesterday morning warned unlicensed blogshops to stop selling cosmetic contact lenses.

The Optometrists and Opticians Board of the ministry sent e-mail letters, which The Straits Times obtained, to blogshop owners to remove all contact lens-related posts from their blogs immediately as well.

If they did not, they could run foul of the Optometrists and Opticians Act, and face jail of up to six months or fines up to $25,000, or both, for prescribing and dispensing contact lenses without being qualified to do so.

The cosmetic lenses are popular with teenage girls, but some users have developed complications, such as corneal ulcers or conjunctivitis, from wearing them.

Last month, The Straits Times' forum published a letter from the board, warning buyers to buy lenses only from licensed and qualified sellers.

The cosmetic lenses are being sold on personal blogs, which have become a platform for teens and youth as young as in primary school to sell clothing and accessories. Their customers are usually other youth.

This is the second reported action taken by a government agency on casual, typically unregistered, online businesses.

About two years ago, two blogshops selling food products were asked by the National Environment Agency to remove mention of their wares online. The law prohibits food prepared at home from being sold to the public because of food safety concerns.
Checks by The Straits Times last week found there were at least 10 online 'stores', mostly run by young women in their teens or early 20s, selling cosmetic contact lenses.

These lenses, which are usually imported from South Korea, may or may not be powered but reportedly make the users' eyes look 'bigger and more sparkling'.
But a Sunday Times article last month reported that eye doctors and opticians had seen a spike in eye infections in users who had bought cosmetic lenses from online sellers.

In Singapore, only qualified and licensed practitioners are allowed to prescribe and sell contact lenses.

When contacted, a number of blogshop owners said they would sell the lenses only to overseas customers.

A few also said they had certificates from suppliers to prove the lenses were 'authentic' and not faked goods.

One blogshop owner, a 21-year-old who wanted to be known only as Miss Tan, said she would stop all sales after completing her current order this week, as many customers had already paid.

She added that even though she had announced on her blog that she was stopping sales because of legal restrictions, a number of youths, some aged just 12, had approached her to supply them with lenses to sell. 'They are completely unaware of current affairs and news,' she said.

A board spokesman said that if sellers continued their trade in contact lenses, 'enforcement action may be taken against them'.

It conceded that enforcement against the online sale of contact lenses would be 'highly challenging', since owners of websites are hard to trace, but it would issue stern warning letters to those it can trace.

It has also informed contact lens suppliers and companies to supply contact lenses only to qualified sellers, its spokesman said.

Just in case you miss the article in Sunday Times, Feb 15, 09 on "Good Buys Galore", I have placed some of the info there here.

NO GST for Marks and Spencer and Robinsons. They are absorbing the 7% GST for a limited time period. (The time period was not specified.)

Wing Tai Holdings is also absorbing GST avcross its fashion brands like Topshop, Fox, G2000 and Dorthy Perkins from this week Friday to Sunday and for next week Friday to Sunday.

I have not been updating as much as I want to as I have been meeting up with people and when you meet people, you meet at a cafe/ restaurant where there is tons of food which you can't resist to order and which in return will turn to calories that will turn into fats (and also you will realise your wallet on the other hand is getting lighter).

Haa... Decs and Jans are months where the wine flows endlessly and there is always plenty of food around every corner. However ...

REMEMBER TO CONTROL YOUR INTAKE OF FOOD! Before you regret that extra pounds that would be evident once you step onto the bathroom scale (or when you felt your jeans getting tighter).

1. How do I order?

The way to order* is to email me at becolourful21@gmail.com with the following particulars and in following format:

1. Item’s Name: (which is the post's heading)

2. Item’s Name:

Mailing Option: For the first item or the only item, Registered Mail will be @ $2.00 and Normal Mail will be @ $1.00. Every subsequent items will be charged at $0.50.

Total Payment:

*This is the only way as if there are 2 or more buyers interested in the item, the first one who send in her order will get the item first.

2. How do I pay you?

The payment can be done only through ATM transfer. I only accept transfers from DBS and POSB. Further details will be sent to you via email once I received your order.

The full amount (price of clothes and postal fees) should be transferred to my account within 3 days (starting from the time I confirm your order) to secure your order. If the transaction is not complete, the items will be released and sold to the next interested customer.

Dead buyers will be banned and blacklisted.

3. How will my clothes get to me?

The cost of the delivery will have to be borne by you. You can choose normal mail at the fee of $1.00 or registered mail at the fee of $2.00 and this fee will apply to the first item only. Every subsequent item will be charged at $0.50.

I strongly recommend registered mail as SingPost provides a tracking number for you to keep on eye on your package.

I do not offer overseas delivery and meet ups are only done at my convenient.

4. Can I exchange or refund my items?
I'm sorry, no exchange/refund will be allowed. Thus, ask me all questions before hand. Do not hesitate to ask as I am willing to answer. (:

5. Can you offer me discount given if I buy more?
Well... If you ask I might throw in a good deal. (: Discounts will be given based on the type of clothes and amt bought.

All measurements are taken by me to the best of my ability to be the most accurate.

As you would have know, I setup this blog about the same time last year and only able to maintain it for 3 months or so before I got swept away from this blog and moved to another blog and only to come back to this blog again. Well this time I have a better picture of how I wanted this blog to be and would like to stay here for good.

The idea of this blog will be not only to sell clothes I brought on impulse but to also share information on what I think would be beneficial and interesting. Information on health, fashion, food, books and basically every thing under the sun!

So what to look out for will be your contribution. Share things! Your links, your favourite shop address, your favourite food, your best buy, your make up tricks... etc etc. You can tell the boos and thumbs down too, the bad service, what we should never wear.

This is what I plan for this blog: sharing and giving information.

For now, I am going get my layout right, the information updated and post new pictures.

Mind Your Body

By the way for those embarking on their regime to lose weight might want to read the issue on “mind your body” that was published yesterday. (You will find a copy of it along with The Straits Times.) It has an article that discusses 16 myths about weight loss. Pretty interesting… For instance:

“If you are overweight, you should not jog because it puts a strain on your knees.”

Fact or Myth?

Well it is a fact. Jogging puts more weight on the lower limbs which includes the knees and ankles. Cycling, brisk walking and swimming are low- impact cardiovascular exercise that we can start with first! :)

The most ridiculous thing I have done to lose weight is to drink tons and tons of water to make myself full and the thought of drinking water makes me think I am purifying myself. Apparently it is untrue and I have water retention! Haa! haa!

From then on, I just try to exercise but again I am not doing it regularly. Heh~~~ So when I saw the previous issue of "Mind Your Body" that was published on 20 Feb 08 introducing, SGH's Life Centre. I thought it might be a good place to seek help. I have been trying to loose weight for eons~~~ I might wanna check that place out instead of going to slimming centers. But I am just concerned at the consultation fees. Hmm...
